Our Story

In December 2020, Pooja and I started working in our village to promote sustainable menstrual practices and provide access to SRHR awareness for our women. As part of working with the women, we came across the crisis of lack of financial independence among most of the participants and how the pandemic had stripped them of the possible sources of income they had. This made me work towards setting up small ventures that will help these women to earn a livelihood or a supplementary income.

A key reason why I could mobilise the community is the fact that my mother was a social worker in the community, which gave me direct access to the people who saw me grow up among them. This background also gave me a clear understanding of the crisis and the resources at hand.

We started with 6 small and eco-friendly ventures supporting 8 women. We used our contacts to create a community that would purchase these products and in the span of 9 months, we could generate a turnover of Rs.343320. We are currently looking at establishing these ventures as independent enterprises and decentralising the initiatives.

None of us in society have formal training in business or social work- I am a postgraduate in English for that matter. We did have competition as the products we brought to the market were already being made available at cheaper prices by big companies. But the community of like-minded people like you supported us immensely and we are able to support more women as part of our the collective.

As part of extending our support to women from other geographical regions, we have set up a separate tab to help you navigate the different products brought to you by them.

Sending love,

Lakshmy
